I played the main event of the Foxwoods Poker Classic this weekend, and all I got for my troubles was a duffel bag full of smoky-smelling laundry. I lost three big pots on Day One (two of which were entirely avoidable, but I made some poor reads and paid the price), but managed to win enough hands without showdown so that I still had 21k out of my starting 30k stack. On Day Two, I ran the 21k up to 50k, but then lost 2/3 of my chips on a bluff that would’ve worked except that my opponent made a flush on the river. I’m quite confident my opponent would not have called on the end with ten-high (and I was betting the end for sure) if the flush draw had missed. Oh well. I eventually lost my last 15k in a coin flip against Nick Schulman.
I came home on Sunday and played the $1k HORSE, and $300 and $3k NLHE SCOOP events. I was doing great in all three, and then everything went to hell (lost every HORSE hand, lost a big flip in the $3k and then ran AK into AA, got it in vs. a maniac in the $300 with 66 against his KK) in a hurry and I was busto with no cashes. All in all, not a good weekend, but that’s the way this game goes a lot of the time.
Luckily, I can try to turn things around right away, as today features the first SCOOP heads-up events. Here’s to trying to make amends.
